(The following incident took place in the Bay Shore NY store)

If you have a problem with your automobile and you need to take it to an auto repair facility we suggest that you DON'T-REPEAT-DON'T take it to ANY of the locations of Pep Boys. For evidence of why we suggest this visit any of the online complaints boards or complaints websites and key in either "Pep Boys or Pep Boys Complaints." Examples of multiple complaints about this company can be found at http://www.complaintsboard.com OR http://www.onlinecomplaints.com Besides these there are literally dozens of consumer complaint boards which carry multitudes of complaints alleging just about everything you could think of which are reported to be perpetrated by Pep Boys! So be prepared to spend a few hours reading all of the negative assessments about their service and policies. You will see that they have been cited for, among other things,  ineptitude, nastiness, terrible customer service, charging for services that were either performed incorrectly or never performed at all! Providing incorrect information and "suggesting unnecessary and expensive services" are also reported! There are literally thousands upon thousands of complaints. Some of the authors of these complaints use words to express  their feelings which are offensive expletives (profanity)  that we cannot, in good taste, repeat here! It is the "policy" of many auto repair shops to attempt to "sell" you services which you really do not need, but which will take the money from your pocket and transport it swiftly into their cash registers! Pep Boys has been cited on numerous complaints boards as being exactly one of these businesses!

So, with regard to all of these negative remarks, Pep Boys is generally referred to as a "shoddy and unscrupulous business enterprise engaging in deceptive and fraudulent practices which are designed specifically to rip-off the unwary consumer." There are literally thousands upon thousands of complaints revealing the nature of their practices. A large number of these complaints allege that after a visit to a Pep Boys store serious and dangerous conditions suddenly appeared in their vehicle, or that they were charged for work that was never done or was done improperly!

Pep Boys have what they call "packages" which are reportedly nothing more than cleverly disguised schemes to grab even more cash out of your pocket! According to a multitude of dissatisfied customers who have sworn to never go back to their shops, a "package" sounds like a good deal right? Sounds like you are getting "more" for your money right? The reports from consumers who have been there state that YOU ARE GETTING RIPPED OFF! That's what you are getting, according to them!

They charge $101.00 PER HOUR for labor! Then according to the reports we have read they "apply" this charge BEFORE any work takes place. Each vehicle's situation is of course different, however somehow they mystically and magically know just how much time it will take to "fix" your problem! They charged me $69.99 for a mechanic to pour brake fluid into the master cylinder. They called it their "Brake Fluid Exchange Package." NOTHING was "exchanged." The brake system had a leak which was fixed by the replacement of two corroded brake lines. The master cylinder needed only replacement fluid (which was charged for at $4.99 for a 32 ounce container) but for pouring it into the master cylinder a "labor" charge of $69.99 was applied!

An additional charge of $65.00 was then applied and entitled "Brake Fluid Change" as if something was somehow "changed" as if it were a "separate service." ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WAS CHANGED!

Now here's what you do if you feel that you have RECENTLY been ripped off by them. Prepare several COMPLETE copies of reports of EXACTLY what happened. You will need your detailed charges on the "WORK ORDER-CUSTOMER REVIEW" as well as the register tape showing the charges. Pep Boys New York State DMV Registered Repair Shop Number is 7076298 You will need to include this number when contacting the New York State Dept. of Motor Vehicles to file a complaint. If you reside in a different state find out if  Pep Boys is required to be licensed by your Motor Vehicles Department. Each state has different laws, rules and/or regulations! Get their vehicle repair license number and file a complaint with the Dept. of Motor Vehicles or other licensing agency for automobile repair. Check to see if you can also file a complaint with your state's Attorney General.

Check all of the complaints boards on the web. You will be amazed at the stories which paint this company as one of the worst places to take your car!
