THE FORUM DINER

315 Main Street Bay Shore NY

Well, folks, I am the owner and the operator of suffolkconsumer.com and I have to admit that it is sad to say but a recent trip to The Forum Diner left us with much regret that we went there for breakfast.

Service was at an all-time low level. Especially after the meal had been brought to us. It seems that the wait staff assumes that their service for you is over at that point and you then sit and wait for a good while for anything else that you need.

A classic example occurred this morning. After the food was brought to the table a refill of coffee took about 20 minutes since no one was willing to bring the coffee pot around for the now-empty coffee mugs.

The wait staff said that the "bus people" have that responsibility and the "bus people" said that it's the job of the wait staff.

We told the person at the cash register, after we paid the check, about the low level of service and we got a half-hearted apology but NOTHING off the check for the really unsatisfactory service. It is very common in most restaurants and diners to be given a small conciliatory discount for bad service but apparently NOT at The Forum Diner! Either you grudgingly accept the level of service they give or you go elsewhere!

Once before, while dining at the same establishment, we were dismayed by the unavailability of a particular side dish (mashed potatoes) during the height of the dinner hour. How a diner could run out of mashed potatoes (an extremely popular side dish) during the peak of the evening meal hour is beyond us. The manager was called over to the table and when presented with the query about how such a thing could happen simply shrugged his shoulders and said, "So, order something else!" I guess it really did not make any points with him. It made no points with us either!

So, today we decided after we left there, that there are plenty of other fine diners in the area which provide much better service (and don't run out of mashed potatoes) and are willing to refill your coffee cup or mug, so we're NOT going back to The Forum Diner! It rates a "0" (zero) in our opinion!

THE END OF THIS STORY (and the end of our visits to The Forum Diner)
